Ok so I know it supposedly only comes in the protege lx's but a lot of people I see online have 1.8L in the DX and wikipedia says there is only 1 1.8 in that gen of proteges so does that mean it is the BP or is there another 1.8L in that gen cause this would open up a lot of doors for me, thanks!

The 1.8 in the DX is a SOHC the head is different but the block and internals are all the same, that goes for the miata 1.8L too( heads are different block is a BP block).

As far as other cars you can find the BP in the Escort GT 91-96

so I would have to get the head off of a DOHC BP to have the same performance?

Why just get a BP when the BP-T is such a nice little engine for the mx. Would be a better option.. no?

Cost. Plain and simple. BP engines are a dime o dozen and can be found for as little as $200 in decent condition. BP-T engines on the other hand cost a LOT more out of pocket at the outset.. usually between $1000-$1400. And the cool part about the BP is that it can be turbo'd as well. Same internals if I recall correctly.

If you boost a BP you will get better HP gains with a Cheaper price. Kinda wished I had just boosted a BP on my first swap but I thought the same as you. It went to s--- so I snagged a High mileage BP for cheap, I can tell the differences betwwen a Boosted BP and a BPT. BP boosted FTW.

Yes you can. It really depends on your resources, if the SOHC engine is cheap and available get it then swap heads later. If not dont worry about the SOHC and Gte the DOHC BP

This should answer all your questions about the BP Swap.
