v6 1.8

Wanting to change my oil for the 1st time since i bought the car a few months ago. Its weird, in the manual it says my v6 1.8 needs 4ltrs of 5w30 oil, seems clear enough...

2 issues: how much oil + what type?

how much;
-the manual says 4ltrs
-Halfords shop manual says I need 4.9ltrs
-Bloke in my garage said 4.9ltrs after checking computer

what type
-manual says 5w30
-v6 FAQ 'basic mods' post on this site says 5w30
-castol website recommends best to use 'edge' 0w40

http://www.castrol.com/castrol/productd ... Id=7027058

(go tools on bottom left and 'what engine oil should i buy' then enter mx-3 v6)

Who do i believe????

Am i right in saying 5w30 is semi synthetic? I have heard fully synthetic is the way to go for best performance. Im worried i may have mineral based oil in my car at the moment and that going from mineral to fully synthetic may dislodge hard sludge build-ups in the engine and cause major problems........

headache! what do i choose????

Check out page D2-003 of the online manual. It says you need 4.2 qts of oil if you do the oil and filter at the same time. It also has a graph of either 5w30 or 10w30 oil that needs to be used based on operation temperatures. During the summer i use 10w30 and in the winter when its routinely below freezing i use 5w30.
