Hello,

Used the search function but couldnt find anything on this.

bought this filter head on ebay and fitted it today

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=016

After fitting the new air filter i noticed im left with 4 very small black pipes and a black-plastic junction with a cap and mitubishi logo. Not sure what this is for but i left the one single tube hanging by itself and the plastic mitsubish junction peice floating....

New air filter sounds sweet but theres two new problems: my car idles at very low revs and Ive noticed a loud 'cracking' sound. Just like the sound you get from the electic sparker on a gas hob. Its pretty loud and is almost like a whip cracking sound. Anyone know what this is about? Its speeds up when i accelerate and does not sound healthy!

The small Miitsubushi box is a vacumn solinoid for the Fuel Pressure regulator. It is designed to richen the air/fuel mixture on hot starts. Its not really needed but just leave it there anyways. its okay to ahve it hanging as you don't have a place to mount it since the cone filter doesn't allow you to do that. You can shorten the vacumn lines so it doesn't hang as much or make them longer and mount it beside the fuse box.

the hose you said that is just hanging there going nowhere is a vent that goes to the air box. You can puta small hole in teh cone filter and put it there or jsut leave it doing nothing as its justa vent hose.

As for the low idle. make sure the vaf is plugged in and its tight. is there a crack in the rubber inbtake hose between the vaf and the throtle body that is a common problem with stcok intakes. Are you aso getting a CEL?

Thanks for the help. Wreckon i will leave the mitisubishi peice hanging for now. seems easiest.

I made sure the seals were tight but theres a high chance somthings not quite tight enough -will double check it.
Out of interest why is there a sealed plastic pipe that runs down towards the engine??

Also, what is a CEL?

the littleplastic pipe that goes down beside teh distributor??? Thats a silencer. You can plug it you vcan find a way or just buy a whole intake.

CEL = Check Engine Light

silencer? thats gotta go!

The check engine lights not on.

You wreckon once i seal the leak in the system the ticking will stop and it will idle a bit faster. At the moment it idles so slow the car rumbles and vibrates

sealing that piece won't make a diffrence in how it runs, justa tad louder, if its even noticable. ok wreckon

(Just reading the post i put up ere ages ago)

That cracking, sparking sound was the plug on my distributor! The plug had fallen off as it plugs into it from below. The silencer rubs against the plug on the distributor and had knocked it off. The spark was actually jumping from the plug to the socket on the distributor! I happened to look for the problem in the dark so the sparks were easy to spot and it led me to the problem.
lucky as hell!
