finally boosted but i got a problem

Post by PWRD_BY_HKS »

Okay guys so I finally felt what we have all wanted out of our ze's. Quite frankly its a beautiful feeling. I'm still doing the break in miles so I haven't punched it or used full potential of it. Just enough to hear blow off valve. I got one problem.

I was in second gear and I was graduatly spooling up (I needed to see if I had vaccumm leaks ) looking at my gauge I noticed at 4500 rpm's I hit 5 lbs of boost. I let it go because I was scared it might boost more than that. I have a 4 lbs spring. I know it is because I picked it up from my friend who had it on his civic. I have a tial wastegate. I see no leaks on the exhaust connection. I have the dump tube side of the waste gate facing down towards the tranny side. Is this how you all have it facing. how do I check it to make sure it works properly.

Lol. Well you see I'm still a little scared of it because I'm runind the stock pump along with stock fpr for now. So boost spike huh I will defenetly look that up but is it normal ? I was looking at the waste gate and noticed the Gasket does not sit flushed so I need to mess with that what do you think

u should becarefull u running with a manual boost controler if so just keep tabs on the boost a few times my bro spick to 25psi when he was at 15psi...

u really want it to stay at 4psi no matter what invest in a greddy profec B one of the few things from greddy i like and will stand by and say hell yes it works....

Yeah I was thinking I should get something like that cuz right now I'm just regulating boost with the waste gate. Aperantly is not the best way so ....

says who? i dunno bout all them profec electronic boost controllers but im sure wastegate only is best way to control boost lol having an MBC attached makes it worse for proper boost regulation

Fiero! How's it goin maite?

Someone told me brand new waste gates tend to spike for the first couple of miles. I'm just a little concerned..... Don't want my motor dead you know.... I know I have a boost leak because it does have quite some lag on it so let me fix the leaks and try it again. But is that about the waste gate being new is that true ?

possibly but i cant see it being true unless when the WG is new the valve tends to be ''sticky'' cuz its not worn in nicely yet then that can cause some boost regulating problems mainly spikes like you just saw.. what size of turbo are u running?

u do have the WG mounted the righ way right? theres 2 flanges on the tial make sure u bolted the right end up to the manifold lol

make sure the line from the intake manifold to the wastegate is good and sealed no holes or anything if u have an MBC which i think you do make sure there is no leaks with that either i recomend an HOME MADE MBC used it on my talon they are better quality than most ones u can buy from a company and they work VERY good if you have leaks in that line it will not fully ''pump'' up the wastegate and can cause a boost spike..

if u have MBC take it off and run the line from WG to IM and try that out

I pretty sure that's what's happening its just sticking.

As far as the way the wg is mounted well I'm almost possitive its mounted the right way looking at it there is the top nipple which I have routed to vaccumm source on manifold. And then there is the bottom part which has a ring and its the portion where the bottom of the valve sits right. And then there is the side of it which is where the dump tube goes but I don't have one because its pointed pretty much straight to the floor right?

take ur MBC off and rout the line to the nipple on the SIDE of ur WG to the intake u dont want the top nipple getting the boost!

leave ur top nipple vented just one straight line from the side nipple to the intake go out and give er' hell u shouldnt have boost problems

besides u wanted to only boost 4psi right? u have a 4psi spring f--- the MBC u dont need it

wow.. i didnjt even look at your waste gate, i could have told you that the top is to vent and side is to boost :P you should be ok now. I dont think youll spike anymore.

ball and spring boost controller, not bleed type.
they spike very litte/not at all
its still a MBC, and they dont have to be expensive
