I've been reading basically everything on this forum for the past few months and have just recently created a username and started posting a little. I have done tons of research on my car and spent countless days reading posts and working on the car.

I'm interested in purchasing a written-off car with the BP engine (escort, protege, sephia, whatever...) when I can find the right one.

My question is this. I have a '96 MX-3, obviously with the 1.6 dual-overhead, and would like to purchase the Weapon-R CAI. I'm wondering if when and if I do get the BP, the Weapon-R will be compatible.

I've looked at the part #'s for the CAI's for the escort, protege's and mx-3's, and they're all different, but I'm wondering if that's just because of the dimensions of the engine bay, and not the engine itself. I know the 1.6-DE has 3 hoses connected to the air intake (egr solenoid hose, not entirely sure what the other 2 are). I wonder if these are the same on a new gen BP. Maybe the throttle body inlet diameter is also different.

I'm pretty sure that intake would work. I used the same intake from my 1.6 on my BP, but I used to have the SOHC. The DOHC throttle body seems to be the same as the SOHC (don't quote me on that, I don't know for sure), so I don't think you'll have any problems...

may need a different coupler, but thats not hard to change

weapon r/secret weapon intakes are short ram intakes
technicaly...all you have to do is put a filter on the tb to get a a ram air affect (or at least the one they speak of these days)
if your wanting to get a good intake thats short and simple you might as well get a few hood scoops and just run your intake through the hood and get a true ram air effect... other wise..just go to your local muffler shop and tell them the demensions of what you want and pay about 50$ for your own CUSTOM intake :nods:
all in all your going to be waisting your money if you buy it from a retail company.

Actual aftermarket Intakes on a car really do nothing in regards to performance that chopping off the snorkel/bottom of the air box will do.

the cone filter allows for better all around flow plus the flex pipe used in todays systems restricts the flow
a solid one piece pipe with as few bends as possible will allow for better breatheablilty

Put it on a dyno. See for yourself. You are dealing with 1/4's and 1/8's of Horses.
A stock Crinkle rubber hose vs. a shiny piece of aluminum.

The same goes for ppl who believe that hollowing out/removing a cat will gain them power over having a good non-clogged cat inline.

The Weapon R Secret Weapon intake has an optional ram air kit that you can buy. I guess the cone filter is designed to have some kind of hose attatched to it's end, and that hose gets run into the front bumper, or wherever. How well this works, I have no idea.

True , an aftermarket intake might not do much on a otherwise STOCK 1.6 . The key Ive figured out with thease small engines is have parts that work together, Say rather then just a cai, you have a cai, headers & a full exhaust, and a set of performance cams, Now that little 1.6 can breath and you may see over 15hp rather then 2 or 3 with just a cai. Also one thing to consider is to ditch the cai and just get a BPT 1.8l turbo. If your going to do an engine swap, that would make the most since as you can buy the bpt all together and drop it in for a little more then the bp. Youll save a lot of time and effort in the future. also about 50 more hp then the basic bp.
