For ZE owners that have suffered dropped valves..

Post by Tunes67 »

Just a curiosity poll really.. just trying to see if there is a common denominator for the ZE engines that have broken valve retainers and have sucked valves as a result. Also if you or someone has additional information about the engine (Like when & how it went down) if you could post it in this thread as well.. that would be awesome. If you know someone on Probetalk or MX-6.com or elsewhere that had this happen.. please steer them to this thread :) Thanks

I had the problem.

2-crack retainer
both are on the intake side

happened while misshifting
one drop instantly
the other one broke while I took the head off !!

IIRC both happened on the front head (left one)

That is basically what I've heard too, mis-shifts or over revving are when they break retainers.

Although possible, did those people by chance have a history of being hard on their motors?

I dont think i have yet heard of anyone dropping a valve on the kl-01 cammed zes. Supposebly they are the exact same valve train? Im swapping out the retainers anyway once i swap the cams. The car i rarely drive anyway. I know it happens to most people that over rev their car alot. Ive had mine for 10 months, a few missed shifts and im still good (crosses fingers)
