Why is it that I usually hear people say, "yeah some Honda engines only weigh like 20 pounds."

Is that true?

How much do our engine weigh? What about transmissions?

I just find it hard to believe a engine can weigh so little

How do you even believe these people?!?! A 20lb motor would never withstand the heat that a car would require to move. You gotta think about the crazy things that people tell you and ask yourself if it makes sense. A Honda engine is like any other engine, it probably weighs 250+ lbs., I've lifted them before with friends.

I think I read somewhere that somebody had removed his engine and transmission and he figured his car was 600 lbs lighter. Our engines are relatively light for their size. It's not like we have iron blocks.

whats up with all the honda bashing? Honda negines are pretty light and small and make nice power. go look into a Type R motor.

The honda block is made of aluminum so it is extremely light. That is most likely what those people are talking about. I lifted my buddys b18 out of his trunk when it was stripped down just to the bare block and it would blow your mind how light it is. You can lift it up with 2 fingers no problem but if you go to lift one of our iron engine blocks up it is quite heavy. I was bringing my bp block into the house and after a bit of walking it was getting pretty hard after a minute or so. You could easily carry 2 honda blocks, one in each hand.
