Msd ignition wiring help?

Hey,
Im looking at installing an msd ignition, external coil and hei module, I have found 2 diffrent wiring diagrams, one of them incorporates the coil in with the hei wiring, and the other one only the msd is connected to the coil. Will the both work? and are just 2 diffrent methods of wiring. Im not really a fan of engine electronics, so this is getting a little deep for me.
