90-94 protege 1.8 distys will fit - 91-96 Escort/Tracer 1.8L will fit i think - 90-94 323s have the same engine (so it will fit). Miata distys will not plug n play for SOHC.lost_mx3 wrote:As far as I know, the only alternative is one from a miata. But with those you have to get the coil pack and find a place for it because it's not all together. Heard it's an upgrade tho because you can mount it away from the motor and keep the coil cooler giving better performance from it.

For DOHC models 95-98 protege distys will be plug n play. Even miata models without coil packs should be plug n play. And there are plenty of them on ebay i think....

Where is the disty located in the miata engines? Since they are a RWD setup.. the disty has to be located someplace different than where they are located on the B6 FWD engines. Or they would have to be shaped differently I would think. I am not saying they arent compatible.. just curious is all.

Every miata i have seen so far had coilpacks - they dont have a distributor per se - they have a (disty like) cam sensor mounted in the same spot.
The local mech guy at the mazda dealer swore that there are miata models without coilpacks....
