Who Wants Meegasquirt ? check this out!

Post by trupowermotorsports »

Hey guys,

Here at Tru Power Motorsports , we are trying to offer you a all the thigs you want. We contacted Megasquirt about becoming a dealer, warranties, plug and play systems for the MX-3 and etc. This is what they said:

Yes, Megasquirt can work with either of those engines. We've got a
Mazda
Miata test mule hanging around the shop right now running on
Megasquirt,
and the Miata is a little more complicated with its distributorless
ignition. Are you looking to buy these in kit form, or fully assembled?
We can build them to work on either engine, but there are a couple of
questions I will have about the ignition inputs, and you will need to
do
some testing to get the settings dialed in.

We have a one year limited warranty on our assembled Megasquirts on
parts and assembly. This doesn't cover modifications you may have
added,
or damage caused by incorrect settings (such as using Megasquirt's
built
in ignition module and then trying to run 8 seconds of dwell on a
running engine). However, we will not void the warranty if you open the
case or modify the unit as long as the modifications to the Megasquirt
have not caused the problem.

The harness we offer is a universal one, with a Megasquirt connector on
one end and the other ends bare. We do not sell an MX-3 adapter
harness,
but it is likely that you could build one if you have a source of
connectors.

Does this sound lke something you guys would be interested in if we go through with it ?

Would be, but it depends on what you offer. There's group buys in the ProbeTalk forums for many varients of Megasquirt, including a plug and play solution. Although the 4cyl Mx-3's are SOL, there is no problem for the V6 guys.

Here is info on the last group buy. I'm waiting on the next one (kinda, I don't visit regularly), but i'd be interested if you'd offer something similar to what they do

So, what would this offer a normal driver? Improved fuel economy? More power? I just buy this thing and "plug it in" and everything is all set to go? If I love cars but am not a mechanic, is this device for me? Or is it mainly for the high end performance tuners?
No more MX-3.

I would call it a decent step between the average tuner and the serious tuner. It is going to need some aptitude to install since the wiring is not plug and play unless someone builds the harness for your specific car and engine (which TruePower may well do). It will improve throttle response, idle, gas milage and power all at the same time if tuned well. It also requires a laptop to opperate and change settings on. You can get an initial tune at a local Tuner shop and leave it alone, but if you want to change anything you need a laptop to view the settings.

?- which version/s are you looking to offer? Which options are available- spark control, distributorless ignition (more of a wiring thing than the actual ECU build, as long as it has spark control, from what I hear), etc?

The questions we have concern the distributor trigger, which according
to the data we have uses one trigger per cylinder. It may be different
between four and six cylinder engines. I believe these triggers are
evenly spaced; it would help if you could confirm that. Here is what we
need to know about this one.

First, is the signal it sends to the stock ECU a 5 or 12 volt signal?

Second, does the sensor supply the 5 or 12 volts itself, or does the
ECU
need to be connected for this voltage to be present?

Third, does the voltage go from high (12 or 5 volts) when there is no
tooth (or hole, slot, etc.) in front of the sensor, and then go to zero
volts when the trigger moves in front of the sensor? Or does it operate
backwards, starting at zero volts and having the voltage go up when you
put a trigger in front of the sensor?

Now, to answer your question. A Megasquirt-I with the V3.0 main board
will work well for your application. It would have the features you
mention except that the regular MSnS-E code should work for an MX-3 - I
am not aware of any modifications it needs for your engines. The
Megasquirt-II can also work for your engine, from what I've heard.

There are several things you will need to dial in - things like the
trigger angle, fuel tables, spark tables, and the like.

As for the circuits we can build that you asked about: We can add a
driver circuit for the idle control, but it will be up to you to dial
that in. The Megasquirt is not something that will ever pass a CARB
approval, and is technically not emissions legal, nor will it control
emissions devices (although it may be possible to modify it for that,
but that's going to take a LOT of testing!). I am not entirely sure how
the air conditioner interfaces with the stock ECU, so that is something
that would take testing on a live car.

The bottom line is that we will not call one of our ECUs plug and play
unless we've actually tested it on the car it is meant to be installed
in, and made sure everything works. At this point, we do not have an
actual MX3 in our shop or the time to develop a true plug and play
unit.
We can get you close, but it will be up to you to get it the rest of
the
way.

What does the Megasquirt eliminate? Just the ECU? Or does it cut out other sensors, such as the VAF/MAF? Or does it use those sensors to gather its own data?
No more MX-3.

no offense to trupower but it sounds like they are just a middle man for customers. I wouldnt expect much tech knowledge from them.

Well like ive said before.. i am so willing to pay TOP DOLLAR for a megasquirt plug and play for the v6 mx3. There is a plug and play for probe gt BUT the connectors fior the fuse boxes are different,. I used to have thatr set up and it didnt fit my mx3. Cant someone that already has megasquirt help him out? We would all benefit from something like this.
