yah i uno i've always wondered how far you can go after the light comes on because man i push it to the limit. Not good for my car, but hey it's totalled and gone soon so i could care less.

From what i've found you can drive about 30km's after the light starts to flicker. I know that when it's solid and doesn't go off is when i need to fill up. I'm gonna fill a gerry can and run it till it dies sometime, i'll post up my findings and hopefully they'll go in the faq.

nobody has done this?

I once went 60+ miles with the light on (I was in the middle of nowhere) and was able to putter into a gas station.
Another time I got 5 miles before my car stalled out.

So I guess it varies. Generally I can get an easy 20-30 miles out of it before I fuel up, but I try to refill as soon as or before it comes on.

Also there is a thread somewhere about the gas light. Apparently mazda skimped out of some of the foreign cars and didn't give them the gas light.

Yah I recall a thread, maybe last year(?) where at least some of the UK owners did not have the warning light on their rides...

I have had a good range of 30 to 45m when the light comes on, great for me cause it gets me to work and back to my Fav. gas bar.

Yeah... I accidentally broke off the fuel needle while installing the aftermarket indiglo guage covers

Now I use the trip odometer for my guage: gets around 240-255mi in town on a full tank before that light comes on. I comfortable push her to 265mi cause that's about as far as she gets before it stays on constantly... Everyone always says as a rule of thumb that you can go 40mi on a solid gas light, but the very second it stays lit up starts giving me the willy's!

That seems to be consistent with my findings as well. When I go to fill up after the fuel light comes on and stays on solid (Sometimes it goes on and off if I go around corners or up hills, etc..) Usually I can fit 10.5 to 11.5 gallons of gas into the car. Since the tank is rated at 13.2.. that math works for me ;)
