So i thought i may have cracked my head gasket but now i dont think so every once in a while the car starts to over heat fast but there was plenty of anti freeze in the overflow jug would my radiator be getting clogged up?

Sounds like a clogged radiator. An easy way to tell is to get a flush n' fill. Not a drain and fill... Make sure to ask if they do a pressurized "Flush". If not that then replace the thermostat first. It is easiest and cheapest. Drive around your house only until you get it figured out.
