swapped out my old DE and put in one with lower mileage and also doesn't burn oil and now the car won't start. The motor was from a running car. ( one of my buddies 6) It seems like the battery doesn't have enough power to crank the motor but it was smoking from the ground wire to the tranny. the clip that comes from the frame by the coolant resivor. Then I hooked some jumper cables to the maxima and tried jump starting it, still smoked and also still seemed like it was not strong enough to crank. Its probaly something that I missed. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Thanks!

Assuming all electrical connections are correct and making good contact, the starter motor is suspect in this scenario. I recently replaced my starter motor in the 626 after the exact same thing as what you described. My battery was fully charged and lucky I didn't try a jump or the battery casing coulda blown up from the overcharge. Starter solenoid seemed ok, could hear it working when the ignition key was turned but the starter gear was hung up trying to engage. Battery cable started smoking. Replaced starter motor & no probs since fwiw. Maybe try swapping in your old starter?
