I'd start with two things

1) check for vacuum and air leaks. a leak in the intake (especially downwind of the MAF) can cause this kind of thing, as can leaks in any of the vacuum hoses.

2) Pull the CEL codes to see what the computer 'thinks' is the problem. there should be a faq on this in the v6 faq section.

Might also seach the forums on phrases like 'surging'

I believe what he meant by that was a slighty humorous way of saying "why are you asking a question that was already answered for you in advance"

After all. I said
2) Pull the CEL codes to see what the computer 'thinks' is the problem. there should be a faq on this in the v6 faq section.
and then you asked 'how do I pull the codes?'

Now frankly I don't think I'd complain if I were you since he also nicely LINKED you the exact message thread prior to asking 'what the faq?

whereas myself, being a sarcastic crusty old fart nearly twice your age, I'd have said:
1) click on 'forum index' link near top of page
2) click on "V6 FAQ" forum
3) look for and find message thread with words like 'check engine light codes' in the title. as in the thread titled "FAQ: Check Engine Light codes", click on that thread.
4) read and/or print out that thread.

Yes this forum is here to answer questions. But you will realize this if you hang around this forum long enough. That new members come along night and day and ask the same couple questions. You will also realize that there are a select few people on this board that do most of the answering and they get tired of answering the same questions over and over again. So they simply say to SEARCH OR CHECK THE FAQ because an answer to almost every question possible related to the mx3 has been answered on this board one time or another. It is never anything personal, just try to search before asking question. Odds are it will get you an answer quicker than posting a question will.

id say there are two things commonly overlooked that can cause an idle issue besides the ones listed already
1 vacum leak
2 low oil

Also, as you learn more about the forum, you'll discover than yes we are here to answere questions and we do. But when we tell you "check the FAQ", it's probably for the better because the info in the FAQ section is there for a reason, and it's been perfected. It's solid, consice, complete information. Were not trying to be dicks by saying "look in the faq, search it". Were saying this because it's easy to just post up a link, and show you were more info is then having to rack our brains. It's been checked and it's right, so use it!

Anyway, welcome to the board. And yes, by saying "What the FAQ" it means the info that you need was easily accessable in the FAQ, were you should of looked. But now that i told you, it shouldn't happen to much more often.

Just tryin to help you out :D
