performance issues

my car has started to idle funny so i adjusted the screw on top of the throttle body now the car doesnt have the power it used to. can adjusting the screw f**k up your engine performance? also the 6 spark plugs were sooted right up but that was before i adjusted the screw. the engine sometimes has a stumble at 3800rpm but is fine everywhere else in the rpm range even from low rpms. could that be related to the screw adjustment? if so how can it be set back to factory settings? i cant see how it will be the screw adjustment as the engine doesnt stumble anywhere else. i thought adjusting that screw was just to set the idling but it is also the air/fuel enrichment setting too.
