first thing would be to get a CAI( cold air intake) maybe get a new exhaust system like a 2.25 catback, take out the CAT if you can. and weight reduction. but the best bet for my hp is a engine swap

You can try a whole bunch of quick and easy bolt ons, but the problem, getting significant power takes significant money. Unlike a stock turbo, you can't just turn up the boost. And it's not a beefy and restricted V8, the smaller the motor, the smaller the gains. Getting alot of power, but doing it cheap, is an oxymoron. You need to be realistic, it sounds like your trying to get a significant amout of power, but yet you you bought a car with one of mazda's smallest piston engines.

You can try a cold air intake, headers, and an upgraded exhaust, but that's about it for "easy" and "cheap", and will only gain you a few hp. And dont fall for those e-bay chips, they just trick the computer to dump more fuel. Maybe gain power, but you'll just suck back alot more gas, and even burn up your cat and O2 sensors. As well, if you have an automatic, that will rob you siginifcant power, so convering to a manual 5 speed will give a good increase. And if you have A/C. Removing the A/C will give you a few hp, and well as removing your power steering pump, converting to a manual 323 steering rack will give you a few HP. As well, removing weight will improve performance; after all, it's all about power-to-weight, so if you can't increase the power, decrease the weight.

Look at it this way. Your 1.6L DOHC 4cyl had 105hp. The Mazda 1.8L DOHC 4cyl makes 130hp, and that's a whole new motor with an extra 0.2L.

Although the best option would usually be to swap the BP 1.8L, but because you have a 1994 DOHC, to put in a 1.8L, you need to do some significant rewiring, and which I gather from your post, it will be out of your reach, financially and ability. And if you have an auto, I dont even think it's been attempted.

The next best option would be turbo. Your B6 DOHC shares alot of with Mazda's B6T, a turbo variant of your motor. I dont know what's involved with turning a B6 into a B6T since I'm a V6'er, but that would be something to consider and research.

-put an electric cut out just after the header collector
-install wet nitrous kit (hide the solinoids under the dash). cover the lines with black wire loom. Hide the nozzles on bottom of intake manifold
-install hipressure 255l fuel pump
-upgrade clutch

-go kick a$$ telling them all you got is an exhaust cut out

Don't hollow out the cat. Actually, if you do, put a pipe inside of it. If you hollow out the cat, the exhaust gases expand into the cat, and when gases expand, they cool down, and when they cool down, they slow down, which will decrease the velocity of the gases excaping the motor, which would actually void the benefit of hollowing out the cat. With the exhaust system, it's about optimising velocity, and having too big of an exhaust can work against you. There's a sticky in the V6 section, the theory will apply to 4cyls as well

lol yea i will weld a stright pipe in there i work in a grage during the week just don't know to much about the little 4's and trying to make em preform better what kinda hp wouls be gained by the mod's cold air and cat stuff

with the CAI youll get better throttle response, especially in high rpm bands. not sure about actual hp gains but youll notice a difference. but you wont get that much for the money.

yea i just don't wanna put a bunch of money into it it has 200000 km just we have a little privite drag strip about 2 mile long abandon air stripe and i just don't wanna be last so i gotta do something so i can beat the neon's and sunfire's there so im not last

the 1.6L dohc is actually a good base for power.. it is basically the same engine that racing mazda got over 300 whp out of... they did it with the miata though, which the only difference is a little tunning, the cam angle sensor and the ecu

i don't have the link on my work computer but look around
http://www.miata.net
forum.miata.net

some great things you can do is exhaust, open it up on this engine i did a 2" and it made a huge diffrence
intake... another cheap great mod
find the coolant hoses on the throttle body and bypass the throttle body take the coolant hoses and make the TB its own closed loop so that the hot coolant from the engine doens't heat the intake air

lastly almost any performance part for the miata 1.6L engine fits your engine

A really noticeable and easy...and free, usually...horsepower gain that a lot of people don't think of is advancing ignition timing. If you do this, do it by, at most, about 7 degrees, and you will have to start using premium fuel. If you do this in conjunction with a sweet intake/exhaust, you will get performance gains that are proven by both numbers and butt dyno.

Yea thank's for the input just going thought the fourm seeing stuff about good and bad auto trany's in the mx-3 wicth one is the good one witch one is the so called slug and how do i tell wicth i got and what do you guys think of the preformance chips.
