well today drove home from work, and bam the car started overheating, so i drove a lil while and then got a place and pulled over. coolant all over the underside of the hood, most of the engine bay. so i babyd it home and i noticed the inlet pipe that goes to the heater core fell out and coolant just drained from the system. smoked a couple times and got it home finally, installed it again and put new coolant in, flushed the radiator. bam still overheats, no coolant leaking, no whining or nothing. i also do not get any hot air? not sure coolant is going to the heater core. im thinking either waterpump or thermostat. doesnt make much since sucks i just rebuilt the motor.

Thermostat is easy enough to check. The upper radiator hose should be very hot if the thermostat is opening. Start it up and just stand there with your hand on that hose and see if it heats up. I suppose your thermostat could open and the hose get hot and you could still have a bad water pump, in which case the system might circulate slightly by convection, but the circulation would not be enough to properly cool the system.

ya i had the same problem last time my waterpump went bad but i got a whining noise and it leaked pretty bad. sounds like a bad thermostat, but its weird the hose that goes to the heater core is getting coolant but no hot air. is this controlled by the thermostat? hope it is haha thanks for the reply

I can't explain that. I would not think you would have any circulation through the heater if the thermostat is closed.

Its your waterpump dude.. the thermostat only controls when the hot coolant is allowed to go to the radiator. During warm up (and all the rest of the time) coolant circulates through the heater core consistantly. So if your heater isnt blowing hot air.. definately because the coolant isnt circulating.. hence.. waterpump impeller came apart or the belt snapped and is not spinning the waterpump as it should be. ya thats what i thought, the belts still in good condition and the waterpump aint leaking or whining. if i warm up the car the lower hose heats up but the upper hose going to the thermostat is cold. weird, but ya i got a warranty on the waterpump so ill replace that first.

well opened her up took off the timing belt and the covers and walla oil inside there. not sure where its coming from yet its raining here so i gotta stop. i got the waterpump off now but the thing is the pump doesnt look like its messed up the thing spins fine not bearing noise but not sure whats in spec of a working waterpump. radiator is not cracked
