Hi,i have '97 1.6L,the fact is that i have no money for changing motor or BT it and also my engine is very good and have not many klm so i don't want to swap it,what can i do to make the engine stronger?I thought of an aftermarket exhaust manyfold, cai, cams reprofiled(if possible without piggyback).i searched the forum but i didnt get a straight answer for myself if each one of these changes i can get my performance rised.is something possible or is a waist of time?

if u want to go faster u have to spend some kind of cash. the b6 does not make a lot of power N/A.

For Cheep fast power, your best bet is to just buy an intake off of ebay, then put on a nice wet NOS kit. ifyou have lo KM's then i say go with Direct Port Wet kit. real easy to do. you would just have to take off your manafild and drill and tap the runners. real easy, you could do the intsall in a weekend real easly. and you could see anything from 50 whp increase to 150 whp, depending on the shot size.

and a kit only runs anywhere from 400 to 500 buck USD

dont do it!

first, your header will not be able to take that kind of heat. NO2 kits should be run on a good steel header. preferrably stainless. not only that but you should never add more than 50% to a stock motor, i wouldent add more than a 50 hp shot of nitrous.

and DO NOT use wet NO2, the vics system will allow the fuel to pool in the intake manifold, which would backfire and cause the manifold ot seperate from the head... or worse.

Most people suggest not going over 50% of the stock motors power because the stock internals can not hold that much. With good tuning you can turbo a B6ZE in either a miata of Mx-3 to handle double the stock power on a daily basis, and that is on the stock internals.

For the header, the one thing you might consider is going the probe replacement route, although to say the stock MANIFOLD can not take heat is to misrepresent things. The stock manifolds are cast iron and can take significantly more heat than a steel one, this is not giveing good information on the actual problem though.

If you choose to go with a good sized shot of nitrous you need to open up the exsaust side more than the intake side, This would also include a good header. The stock diamaters of the manifold ports would not be able to flow enough and could quickly build up excessive heat. So if your going to go this route you really need to focus on a free flowing exsaust that can eaisly hurt your performance when your not running the juice (you also need to retard the timing more for larger shots as well, this will hurt your performace also when you are not using the nitrous, it is atleast adjustable for a weekend at tack thing).

As for VICS, the only way you could possibly get fuel to pool in it would be to put the jets before the VICS ports, even then the ports sit on the TOP side of the manifold, it would be difficult for a puddle to form as of gravity would be working against it. It would also not be able to detonate, because gas in a liquid form will burn until it runs out of airand not explode.

A wet shot is the way to go though, its much safer for your motor than a dry one, as of you are adding the right amount of fuel with the nitrous.

Speed is addictive though, there never will be enough.

torpedan thank you about the information, but nitrous boost comes second.

i want some extra power, let's say 20-30 hp.As i said i thought of an costum exhaust manifold from the front to the back, cai from ebay as the one i saw some guys have here, and regrinded cams but without any kind of program(piggyback, standalone etc.)(is that possible??????????).those are my thoughts,if you have any suggestments due to reach that horse power, please tell me.

another aspect is the stock header has the warm up catalytic converter, which would cause major issues with a shot of NO2

i still woudlent use a wet shot unless i had a stright port (turbo) intake manifold

unless of course you direct port it.

just how vics works will coat the inside of it with fuel moreso than a stright intake. better safe than sorry.

I can assure you that his b6 never had the warmup catalytic converter.

I think they were only fitted for California domestic market.

i have a 94 b6 dohc (same as you but not obdII) a few things that I did that gave me a noticeable power boost were:

1. Ram Air intake from ebay from an integra modded to fit (very easy)
2. Play with disti timing a little
3. 2" exhaust from header back
4. Take the coolant hosing that runs through your throttle body and make it a closed loop so that hot coolant doesn't run through your throttle body and heat up the air

I did these things here and recieved some great gains. If you do this and add say a 25 hp shot dry nitrous or wet even you should be very very happy with the results... and if you ahve the time you could pull the head off and port and polish it like i did... just make sure you give yourself plenty of time cause its hard work

project mx thank you for your usefull information but i have some questions:
2)how much to adjust it? and 4)can you saw me some pics cause i am afraid that i didn't understand.

could also someone tell if it possible to regrind my cams(in a limit of course) without programming?i will have any hp gain?
