I read today that a leak in the air snorkel can cause stalling while de-celerating and hard starting. I am assuming the air snorkel is the rubber hose from the air filter housing to the TB, is that correct and any comments?

Answer is yup. That ribbed hose can crack as it ages 10+ yrs. or so. Usually thin hairline cracks between the ribs that allow unmetered air to enter the intake airstream, especially when the hose flexes as the motor torques/shifts a bit on decel, accel, and especially when starting. That causes stalling because the amt of fuel is too lean when this happens - the electronic control unit(ECU) doesn't "see" that unmetered air coming in thru the crack(s). A temporary fix is to tightly wrap a few turns of duct tape around the "snorkel" hose until it can be replaced.

This problem shows symptoms as if it is a fuel delivery malfunction when really, it's more of an air surplus problem.

Just get a piece of Intake pipe and some silly-cone hose couplers..

or a CAI/ Short Ram..
