So I took the Mx-3 for another e-test yesterday, It's not due until February, but might as well do it now while there's no snow on the ground. I did get a slight technicality because my car was "too low", so it couldn't do the roller test, and was tested as "2 Speed Idle Tailpipe Emissions Inspection"

All test were performed as a K8

ASM ~2525rpms

Test / Nov '06 Readings*/ Nov '06 Limits* / Jan '05 Reading / Jan '05 Limits / Dec '02 Limits

HC ppm / 55 / 200 / 12 / 68 / 89
CO % / 0.33 / 1.0 / 0.0 / 0.38 / 0.50
NO ppm / N/A / N/A / 5 / 526 / 684
*2500rpm Idle Test

Curb Idle

Test / Nov '06 Reading / Nov '06 Limits / Jan '05 Reading / Jan '05 Limits / Dec '02 Limits

HC ppm / 165 / 200 / 11 / 200 / 200
CO % / 0.42 / 1.00 / 0.01 / 1.0 / 1.0

Lol, it well I like to keep info posted and documents, and apparently keep a trail of breadcrumbs the size of the 401 behind me.

Yeah, from my understanding Cali is pretty strict with their emissions control.

Not in calli... Just talked to my wifes cousin and he is into older BMW's and has an 87' they are strict as Fu... though he said 40 to the right person and it will pass ;) independent shops can perform the E test.

My car passed on the DE tuning with flying colors. I would think that as long as you go in there with the DE tuning and a good normal cat you will pass, assuming everything else is proper. you could always run two cats

If it does not there are many tricks to get it to pass depending on the issue.

Nd4SpdSe - Can they not pass you for being too low?

having coilovers the too low is not a problem ill just go out to the parking lot mark where i had them set and them raise them up as high as tehy just to be a smart a--   monster truck jam!!

And i REALLY hope this ZE passes, i will not be a happy camper if it doesnt. The strict vehicle laws was one of my main CONĀ“s of going to school in cali

No. What they did is do a "2-speed idle test", "2-speeds" technically being that you can't hit the right RPM range at the cruising speed they would test at, but that's the test they would classify your as so that it ignored the roller test. The earlier rollers were on ramps and sat high, and shops wouldn't risk damaging your car, so they did it that way. Last on they moved to low profile rollers in the floor with no ramps.

Now, they're revamping the system, basing it on OBDII code scans only, and for cars 88-97 (typically covering all pre-ODBII vehicles. 87 and older exempt) will require an idle test only.
A decision has been made to make amendments to Ontario Regulation 361/98 (Motor Vehicles) under the Environmental Protection Act. The amendments to the regulation will modernize the Drive Clean program, and include implementing computer based emissions testing for light duty vehicles.

The amendments prescribe new On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) emissions test standards and emissions testing equipment for 1998 and newer light duty vehicles, and prescribe two-speed idle (TSI) tailpipe test standards and emissions testing equipment for 1988 through 1997 model year vehicles.

The current dynamometer test and emission standards prescribed in section 9 of the regulation will be revoked as of January 1, 2013. In addition, the regulation will be amended to provide the Drive Clean Director the ability to enhance repair technician training and effectiveness.

The proposed regulatory amendments will ensure that the program continues to be effective in reducing harmful vehicle emissions of smog-causing pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), hydrocarbons (HCs) and particulate matter, as well as carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.

A better trick is to use ethanol/methanol blended fuel and add acetone to your gas. This is a proven work around. You have to use the acetone with the above mentioned blended fuel or it won't work. Acetone is an octane booster as well. Jesse use to add 3oz to his fuel at every fill up and swore his mileage improved.
