What kind of winter tire or all season tire will fit on the stock 15inch rim off of a 1992mx-3? I have 205/55/r15 on now but those are summer tires, what other sizes will fit?

195/60/15 would be a good size for winter, 185/65/15 will even work, the size you got now is the OEM recommended size for the 15" rim.

For winter I would go with a 185 over a 195 for snow and slush. The narrow width cuts through the snow rather that pushing a wedge of snow in front of the tire. the taller side walls also help to allow that time to ride over ruts in the ice as well. In winter Rally racing you often see 165 and 175/50/18"

The following is a general equivlent size to the stock rotational diameters

165/75/15
175/70/15
185/65/15
195/60/15
205/55/15
215/50/15
225/45/15
235/40/15
245/35/15

Also the rubber compound in "All-Season" tires really isn't much good below -10C below this temp the rubber becomes to hard and looses it's ability to grip.

get your self some goodyear ultra grips, there only around 70-90 a tire, and have lasted me many winters. the directional tread really gets you through the snow.

Check this site out. http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

Different tires will fit on the same rim because the sidewall is flexible. Each rim size has it's own recommended size, but you can usually deviate 15-20 mm away from the recommended size, and the tires can still seal correctly.

Also, in snow and ice, the thinner the better, because wider tires tend to float over the ice and snow, while thinner tires will try to get between the snow. Look at the Rally cars. Their tarmac tires are way wider than their snow tires.
