I have a 95 mx-3 with the 1.6 DOHC, it only has 178kms on it and its burning more oil than it should be. Theres no leaks and i never see smoke of any kind coming out of it. I was just wondering if anyone knew what would be causing it to do this, and how to fix it (besides the obvious motor swap... lol).i know its kind of a vague question, but any info is greatly appreciated. thanks

Sounds like valve seals to me.. and if not taken care of.. eventually will destroy your exaust valves. The reason you dont see any smoke is because your catalytic converter is doing its job. Small amounts of oil smoke are burned off in the cat all the time. First thing to do is a compression test.. This will reveal if you already have some valve damage or not. With the mileage you are at.. you should be seeing about 140-150 PSI even across all 4 cylinders. Stock is 180. But its not about how high the numbers are.. you want them to be fairly even all the way across. If you find any that are really low compared to the others.. well there is damage to the valve(s) on that cylinder.

Now if your compression numbers look decent.. well then you can replace the valve seals and you will have prevented major valve damage from occuring and you can smile and know that all is well with the universe :D

i agree valve seals. but with gone or worn valve seals, there should be blue smoke on start up till it warms up a little then it will stop. have u checked ur rocker cover gasket as mines shot, and the oil is not leaking onto the spark plug boots, but just out of the front sides and back. so check your block and head to see if there is oil on them or its dry. how much oil is more than it should be as my buddy puts in a quart every half week, to a week. and his valve seals r gone. but he has blue smoke on startup.
