I have a 92 mx3 gs and my sunroof dosnt work. I think the gears are stripped (sp?) in the sunroof cause it will barely open, then just keep making a clicking noise and not move at all. My question is how hard is it to replace these gears, or is it something else altogether?
Thanks,
BLANK

It is probably easier to replace with a working one than to fix or adjsut. The tracks get dirty over time and most people don't clean or adjust them. So they wear down, break or come off trackand won't open or close. You can open it by taking the circle of headliner off that is just behind the sunroof. Then use a allen wrench to crank the roof open. From there you can take a look at the tracks for dirt or broken parts. If it looks ok, then clean it, regrease it and try and close it with the switch. If it closes then try and open it and see if it works.
If you don't see anything then you need to take a look at the motor and gear, but that requires you take the sunroof out of the car. At this point I'd just replace it with one that works, if you can find one at a decent price. I don't think that Mazda sells just the motor or the gear, only the whole assembly and thus it is going to cost a fortune to get a whole new one. It is worth a call to them though to find out if you find a broken gear.
