Anyway I will be offering help to those wanting to Improve there sound sytem in the mazda mx-3 whether it be for sound quality or sheer SPL.

As for a little background I compete for TEAM RENOTS in SLAP and USAC and have been in the competition circuit for quite a few years. My new addition ( mazda mx-3 ) took 2nd at it's first show and after I got to play with her a little bit landed 6 1st places back to back.

that guy that hit 167db is in a unlimited wattage class and uses a total of 9- 15" subs and about 30 4000 watt amps in a van.

You will notice there is like a # near each list of competitors like above my name 301-900. thats the power classthat i am in which means im using between 301-900 watts. this ratin is based on the 4ohm rating of the amplifiers in use.

My system consists of an eclipse cd 4000 headunit, 2 kicker kx1200.1, 1 kicker 650.4, 1 memphis mojo 15", 2 polk momo 6 1/2 components, and lots of batteries, 1/0 gauge wire and dynamat.

150 is pretty good. I've only done 140 on the new SPL boxes they use at Outlaw. But then again, I was only running 500 watts total, and my 15" is tuned to 18 Hz.

How much have you done to your Mojo thusfar? Have you already found your resonant frequency for your car and tuned the sub enclosure around the resonant frequency? Have you maxed out the size of the box in the hatch? You should be able to get 8 cubes in the hatch before pressing into the rear seat area.

Heh then I think my single L7 (12 inch) pushed on 2ohms at 750rms and my kicker 6.5 component setup on my kx350.4 amp is pretty dang good...

With no dynomat or anything like that I hit 141.3.

That there is the problem. In order for the MX-3 to hit high spl the seat must be compromised. The box i am currently using is a sound quality box 4 cubic feet with very small slot porting. We are currently working on an spl box tuned to 56hz which is the resonant frequency of the mx-3. The spare tire well and entire hatch area must be empty and the trailing edge where the sub is located must be at the edge of the spare tire well with sub or subs fired rear as well as the port to the rear. Placing anything in the hatch or spare tire well will net in a loss of 3db. For those that understand how db works that is a huge loss.

We have tested upfired, downfired, and every other configuration possible and this by far nets the best results. As far as cubic feet available by pressing all the way to the B pillar which according to SPL rules is the farthest you can go the car has about a net of 10 cubic feet from behind the B pillar to the first edge of the spare tire well without exceeding the rear view or above the window line as per rules.

Just FYI in SPL heres how db works. For every 3db gained you have effectively doubled the pressure in your car. Basically saying that 300 db is not twice as loud as 150db. It's more like 153db is twice as loud and 147 is half as loud.

An average streetbeater hits about 140-143db. Also would like to add that people who post Man my car is so loud i broke my windshield is full of you know what. You will blow the gasket out of a window before the glass breaks. I have seen glass break at 162db however there was a small crack in the windshield prior to it breaking thus the spl just made the crack spread, actually spiderweb, was really cool to watch.
