this is Limegreen MX-3 and i am doing something different seeing if it will work. I got to get my Turbo sohc project going Turbo ric saying iam slacking off.

so today i spent it converting a 1.6 dohc mx-3 engine into a 1.6 sohc i know its a waste of time. I have a spare 1.6 sohc&trans siting in my wreck 93 MX-3 just don't want to take the time to pull it i have no turck to bring it to the shop. there a crap out sohc engine and a good working dohc.

to my surpise when taking apart the sohc bottom block they come with a windage tray i know the bp's have them didn't know the sohc had them too. I also took apart the bottom part of the dohc nasty design like a two part oil pan.. BUt the rods and pistons look the same.

anyways to convert a dohc engine into a sohc u need swap out these parts not worth the converting but i had spar parts to prove if it can be done.
1.6 sohc parts
cly. head
head gasket
water pump
oil pump (why timing tensioer on the oil pump where it on the water pump on the dohc) sohc&dohc oil pumps different
windage tray and oil filter spout and oil pan
timing belt

Pic will be post of the differnce and simlarries of the sohc and dohc engines.

if the gurdle is on a 1.6L sohc what on earth does that have to do with my AWD transmission and rear subframe? i thought the gurdle was a part of the engine?

it is u have a bp that probly has it as well another name windage tray. calm down i never said anything about a trans and subframe. i was saying since u have done all that work to ur car probly intsalled the engine or done all the work urself u should have pic up a thing or two.

oh the MSBP is what mazda calls it... and i've heard windage tray from my buddy into muscle cars... gurdle was a completely new term to me... why would i assume though that the term gurdle is the same thing as the MSBP that I have? Yeah i did the work rebuilding my BP (excluding boring / honing / balancing) and I picked up a lot but sorry i didn't pick up slang terms for the parts, I just learned the names mazda called our parts
