Hey,

Hows it going ? My name is Jay and I am from Muskegon,MI . I just bought a 94 MX-3 RS Canadian Version. It needs some work but I already started on a few things. It has a oil leak somewhere? not to sure gotta find it . It needs a new radiator, seats, alternator belt and headliner. I picked it up for a steal though $600. I have been into tons of other cars I just sold a 91 Escort Gt fully custom then went to a DSM and now back to mazda power . I run a online store for a living. I hope to make new friends and gain alot of knowledge and ideas for my car. it is white btw, I will post pics soon. I am open to any and all ideas. soo if someone can help me get off to a good start it would be greatly appericated.

Start by reading the FAQ, chances are its in there. be sure to use the search feature, most questions have been asked before.

Also we have an online workshop manual, link is on the main page, should you decide to takle most jobs yourself.

Hey guys- my name is Paree,and I just found this site- so glad I did!
I have a silver 1994 MX-3 that I bought a little over a year ago. I LOVE THIS CAR. I got an awesome price on it, and the only repair that it's needed was a CV joint- so I"ve been really lucky! As I was getting my oil/tires done today, I mentioned that the tack seemed to be jumping in 3rd gear- they drove it and advised me that my clutch is not long for this world. I am having difficulty finding a shop to do the job, I did find one that quoted me $830...Someone please tell me if this seems like an average price for a clutch job? lol- you know us women I am curious only because I've only ever owned automatics and want to make sure I don't get ripped off ! Last time I actually paid someone to do a clutch for me was 1994, and that was $500 --- so I guess $830 seems OK ----- but my $500 included flywheel resurface and the clutch itself. Make sure that's an all-inclusive price.

Welcome aboard Paree Likely you wont need a shop to do the clutch for you.. since your in Atlanta.. one of the more organized MX-3 clubs is in your backyard. You will meet the members on this site.. but they also have their own site too. They are called MOCA (MX-3 Owners Club of Atlanta) and their members include, Mnemonic, Patdiesel, Atlantamx3, Jaydog, ccreech, and many others You can find their forum homepage at this link..

And while I cant promise you that they will actually help you do your clutch.. they do meet every thursday evening and work on each others projects.. so if you join up.. your clutch may be one of those projects

Btw.. I called Clutch Docters ( a shop local to me that has done work for me in the past ) and they quoted me $420 for a complete clutch install parts & labor. So I would call around if your planning to take it too a shop.. you will likely find a better deal.

Thank you soooo much for the helpful advice! I do know that on the estimate they gave me,it was broken down as such:

CLUTCH KIT: $ 248.43
MACHINE FLYWHEEL: $ 60.00
LABOR: 7 HOURS@ 80/HOUR= $564.00
TAX,ETC: $ 14.91
------------------------------ TOTAL $827.34----------------------------------

It is going to take me a couple weeks to slap together the money,so am hoping it won't die on me before then!

7 hours of labor? Are they giving birth or changing a clutch? Find another shop.. a well equipped shop and a competent mechanic can do the clutch job in under 3 hours tops. And thats being generous. A GOOD mechanic and a well equipped shop should be able to do it under 2 hours.

I so appreciate you telling me this. I tried to call around today for estimates but nobody was open. If I can get it done a little cheaper, than I can have it fixed right away. I don't know how long you can drive around with a bad clutch before it dies- and since I drive from work very late at night,I don't want to take too many chances on it dying.

I followed the link you mentioned,and registered in the MOCA forums-am waiting for a response-thanks for the tip! Maybe someone local can direct me to a better deal than what I'm looking at.
