[enter the lamer :P ]
Ok, firstly running(or not) a stock 1.8 v6 UK spec 95 mx3.

I was cruising along at 30mph then the car lost acceleration and the engine just died followed by the loss of power steering etc. At first was worried about timing belts as i thought i smelled rubber(not 100% about the smell), so checked them and theyre fine. So towed it home.

When I try to start up I can hear the starter motor working fine and all that.
I checked the spark plugs and leads are all fine
I checked the fuse boxes
Then I checked if the plugs were sparking, but they're not
The engine is getting fuel though because I can smell it
So I tested the dist primary coil resistance got .8ohms (meant to be 0.49-0.73)
Haven't tested secondary yet*
Checked ok that there was 12V going through the lead that goes into the dist
So I had a go with the diagnostic LED test, which showed no stored faults.

so! anyone any advice? thinking of getting a used dist and trying it out
any help greatly appreciated!

thanks man, that is some first class thinking
