windows not booting

Ive got neighbor with computer that starts up and just hangs on screen where it says searching for boot record from IDE ok..
searching for boot record from CD-ROM...etc and it just wont go on.

Normally is it OK's the IDE, it means it found it and should start (or attempt) a Windows boot, if it moves to CD-ROM afterwards, it mean's there's a problem with reading the boot sector.

- It could be a boot sector corruption, which a Windows repair installation should fix it
- Could be hardware related, normally a hard drive failure. In that case, the defective hardware would need to get replaced.

actually it ok's IDE I think.
