Ok, got a few questions here about exhaust manifolds.

First off, i would like to say that i want to make one. Equil length runners. 4-2-1 with a spot for my o2 sensor.

OK SO

1) what is the stock manifold made out of.

2) what grade steel do i use to make a manifold

3) can powercoat stand up to the head of the exhaust manifold

4) should i just cut the brackets off my stock manifold and have it powerdercoated?

5) am i crazy?

Thanks,
Bochek

1) Pot Metal basically lol. It's casted metal (forgot the type but yeah).

2) T304 Stainless Oh Jeah. Need special stainless steel spool for welder.

3) Depends on how good of a powdercoating job was done. ceramic powdercoating likes to peel.

4) Lol believe me after time you will dislike powder coating.

5) Yes you are seeing that corksport already has mx-3 headers made.

I was planning on doing that a few months ago...still plan on giving it a shot if I go DOHC in the near future.

let me know how it goes...and if you need a mediocre tig welder (took two courses at sheridan) let me know.

HE HAS A SINGLE CAM WINGLEBEAST. LOOK AT THE FIRST POST.

 calming down

The 4-1 is for the dual overhead cam.

The 4-2-1 is for the single overhead cam.

The only thing you would have to do Bochek is weld from the bottom of the header. This mani does have an 02 bung.

Lol by the way i was kidding by getting mad lol. Hey, it worked for making you revise this post lol. You should go B6T WingleBeast cause you have the DOHC. Sounds better than NA.

my master plan is to just get a nice header for my B6 in my car to ebb my power craveing, while i build up another B6 in my basement for a turbo (new pistons/ rods/ so on...) cause if im gonna go turbo i want to do it right and go like 12 psi without blowing a hole in my block

4-2-1 can be used for a DOHC. The Probe 2L header can be modified to fit a 1.6 DOHC. It is a 4-2-1 design.... or are you guys talking about the cork sport ones?

i heard the probe ones dont work well cause the ports dont line up as well. ive heard this before but nobody has dynoed it to see if it actually is better than stock

The ports line up fine on the probe headers. 2 of them are off by a few mm, but I doubt that makes a noticable difference, esspecially after you shave them down. I figure they would be just as much better as any other set of aftermarket headers in any other car.

And everything i've heard about the genie headers is bad news. They are reported to be poorly made and they need to be welded to the cat (or a similar solution), they don't just bolt on.

even if its off a few mm thats bad... yeah the genie ones arnt good at all, not quality steel. custom is really the way to go
