Hey guys,

My mx3 has 260 k on it and burns oil like mad, im lookin at just replacin it with a jdm k8. Whats this i hear about there being no egr system? Can i just swap the solenoids and sensors on to the jdm ones and not have a problem with the check engine light coming on.

Any help would be appreciated.

alot of ppl will say this but dont get the jdm k8 its only a 10hp increase and by the time u paid for it u can get a kl-de for cheaper or a kl-ze roughly the same price u will get more power and its easier to get a hold of

I would imagine you could buy a dead DE and rebuild it and swap it in for less then the cost of the JDM K8 and shipping.

Well i can get one from a supplier in toronto "tiger Japenese" and its like 500 Canadian. I just dont want the hassel tryin to find another airflow meter and ecu. Will the egr swap onto the k8 jdm though? Like this is just my everyday driver i have no real need for more power.

You dont have to get another ecu, for the money, wouldnt it be nice to make the car a little less underpowered? You wont regret it mate.

yeah i've also heard bad things.

If it's your daily driver, then why not just get another K8 or rebuilt your current one, or rebuild another one? It would be a fun job, cheap, and you'd have another reliable engine, maybe abit faster.

If you do want abit more speed, i'd go DE. It's about 500-700 as well, depends were from and its defantly a direct swap.

I WOULD say KLZE, but thats alittle over kill seeing as you not looking for the power, just a replacement... and its twice the price of a DE.

If you 100% do NOT want a KL under any circumstances, then rebuild an American K8. If you can't afford the downtime to fix your own engine, then someone will GIVE you a K8. I've thrown two K8 in the garbage dumpster, one was in perfect condition with no oil burn.

Um, I got my KLZE for 800.00 even, shipped to my front door. It even had a distributor and everything. I also can buy KLDE's from salvage yards with 90K sometimes less for 250-350 tops. Why would you pay 5-700 for a DE? I would think anyone could get the prices I can, I dont have connections or anything like that.

because he's not looking for the power, just a replacement engine...i'm pretty sure anybody in his position would spend 200-500 on a DE then spend another 300-500 for a ZE if they dont' care about power.

YOU said 500 to 700 on a DE, I said I got a ZE for 800.00 shipped, thats my point, where are you finding DE's that expensive? Are they rare in canada?

Yeah, I thought that there could be a difference since you are in canada, and the cars themselves are more money usually or so I have heard.

Well i would love to upgrade to a de or ze but i hear the atx transmission cant take the power for very long so whats really the point if im just asking for transmission problems. Is there anyone out there thats runs a 2.5 with an atx ? how does it stand up?
