Post by escortluver19 »

i have heard that there are a few f2t powered mx3s runnin around the midwest.im interested in the swap but i have an escort currently and they are similar.if your not familiar with the motor im talkin about, the f2t is the motor found in the 1st gen(88-92)ford probe and mazda mx6/626 turbo models...is this swap possible and does anybody know what is needed cuz i have two friends with 1st gen turbos and i have access to the drivetrain but mounts, crossmember, tranny issues need to be addressed...thanks

I would venture out to say that yes, the swap is possible. Granted that you can overcome any fitment issues with some kind of custom modifications such as mounts and fitting the drivetrain, and ECU.

The GT transmissions are a beefy bunch. In saying that, the axles might not fit into the hub assembly of an escort. Nor do I think that a hub assembly from a 1st gen GT would be a direct replacement into an escort.

The engine height might pose a problem as well, not too sure though. Plus it weighs more than a BP.

I would say that if your escort is a GT than your best option would be to grab a BP from a protege ECU and all. The power output from modifications would far exceed that than if you went for an F2T. Plus the BP has better head flow due to its DOHC where as the F2T is a SOHC.

Another thing to consider is aftermarket support. I can honestly say that there is next to nothing for our motor(F2T) And that which is out there costs a pretty penny.

Too much to list...
