As you all know i have the 1.6 sohc, its very very fast, i almost never lose a race. however i want to go faster. i wanna do it myself and have absolutely no experience with motor swaps. i want something that i can re-use a lot of things so i dont have to go wild with cash, even if its the 94+rs motor. so far i know my options are:
dohc as mentiond
and the bp
not sure what the b6 is

So which of these is the easiest for my motor, can i keep my tranny and ecu? what WILL i need (axles, mounts, gaskets, exhaust.) please help looking forward to doing this withing a few weeks if i can get enough help.

Performance per Dolla BP is your best bet. As far as swaps go its very simple and regardless of converting over to a DOHC or a BP you would be looking at a simliar level of parts replacement. With one though you get a more common platform, more power, and more displacment.

Do a search and check out the faqs on the details for a BP swap its been talked about countless times.

There is a drop down box at the bottom of the page that will limit how old the threads it shows are, set it to all so you can view all the FAQ's.

swap it out for the 1.8 dohc bp, its more horses and it bolts up with everything you have tranny clutch sencor wires and everything.

I am not sure what a bp motor comes out of but if it just bolts in I would definetely be interested in trying...what car and would I need to get the motor from and will I need anything else...i.e computer distributor anything like that?

Thanks.

out of a protege lx and an escort gt, the escort gt ones are nicer looking. all you NEED is the motor. id get the ecu and stuff too just to be sure, cant hurt your saving alot anyways.

i have a samilar model MX-3. I used a BP engine out of a 90-94 i also took the wiring harness and ecu it will make the swap a hell of a lot easier and u'll be able to use the bP potenial. I used the orginal trany that came with the car and bolted it up with the BP along with the flywheel and clutch. The harness and ecu i removed and replaced it with the BP harness and ecu plug & play no sliceing cuting or rewiring of any sort. it easy to do but replace timing belts rear main seal thermastat plugs dissy while engines is out and esay to get too. i've done like 10 BP swaps then again i do work at a mazda performance shop.
