faded timing marks

Post by ariesdude »

The timing marks in the crank pulley are faded. According to the manual http://mx-3.com/95manual/B1/B1-009.gif there is a yellow mark and a white mark. But when i look at it with the light both of them look white in my engine. I have always aligned the lower one (the one towards the radiator) with the biggest lowermost mark on the belt cover. (the marks on the belt cover are covered with some crud that wont come off). Is this the right position for timing?

The manual has conflicting info

http://mx-3.com/95manual/B1/B1-009.gif
Here it says align the white mark with the timing cover

http://mx-3.com/95manual/G/G-024.gif
Here it says align the yellow mark with the the timing cover

Which one do you guys follow?

Thanks for the help -

I believe theres just one mark on the pully that's super noticable. I could be wrong but I never remember running into the problem of being confused about which mark to use.
