Hi all!
I just bought a 96 V6 5speed, with 199,000 kms on the odo. The car sat for close to a year. I've just had the water pump, timing belt done and a broken motor mount replaced. Tonight was the first time I've actually had it out driving - just got the plates on it today. It ran great, made a few stops, washed it, put gas in it, no problems. Stopped at Crappy Tire to pick up some things.. it wouldn't turn over. Kept trying... the wierdest thing happened. Tach shot all the way up past the redline - where it stuck!!! Even with the car turned off, the needle stayed there.
I let it sit for half an hour, tried again, with the needle staying in the red, not moving. Check engine light was on, still, car would not turn over. Needle suddenly jumped back down where it belonged, car turned over and started, but ran badly. Stalled in traffic, had to push it to a gas station. Started again, got it home. Check engine light is on. Any ideas from you guys who are familiar with these cars? It sat for quite a while, so I'm picking up stuff to tune it up (man, it's hard to find plugs and wires for the 96 V6!!!) as well as new filters.
Any advice/help is much appreciated!!!
