Just like topic says does anyone know if 225/50/R16's will fit? I have the eibach pro kit with zx2 struts if that helps.

225/50/16 is probably the wrong size. 205/50/16 is OEM diameter. I'm guessing you'd have to go down to a 45 series for closer to OEM diameter ..... 225/45/16

225/40r16 would be the proper diameter

And you would need a wheel with less positive offset like a +35mm and for a tire that wide you will need a wheel that is at least 7.5" wide and a 7" is not advisable. This comes from many years of experience with this size of tire and my annual changing of the mags every year.

No the size I specified is the size I want for my 16x7 wheels. I do want to change the gear ratio a bit and that size is 1" taller then the stock size.

As Yoda says..., whether it would fit or not would depend on the offset of the mags. My guess is that it would probably hit the strut, my 215's are quite close

No it's not, brainiac. That's the right size for an MX3 RS, not a GS. There's enough people giving misinformation on this board. We don't need people contracticing correct information.

just use the tire calculator http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

it will help you decide what the correct tire will be. As Yoda said, a 225 will be too wide for the rim you are putting it on.

so you guys don't like 7+ inches on the mx ?

my plans have always been 17x7.5 front and rear.. is this Not a good idea?

that is not what was being said... they original poster wanted to put a 225 tire onto a 7" wide rim which is to recommended.
Typically a 215 would be better for 7"-7.5" wide rim. the trie calculator will have you choose a tire profile that will be the best for your setup. You will want to find a tire that will be the least amount of difference from stock.

i don't think you can buy tires to keep the speedo @ stock

Tire calc:

185/50-14 onto a 215/25-17 = speedo 0.2% fast .... Or 60mph on speedo actually = 59.9Mph

When compared to what most people use (and the only tire i know is avail)

185/50-14 onto a 215/45-17 = speedo reading 15.7% slow... or 60mph on speedo actually = 69.4mph...

Can you correct the speedo in the ecu ???

you need a GS...a 215/40R17 is almost a perfect match in diameter to the GS stock size

225s are very commonly mounted on 7" wide rims. It's a rather ideal fit. Even the Probe GTs came stock with 16x7s and a 225/50/16 on them. I've put up to a 215 on a 6" wide rim once. A little bit wide for the rim, but it was only for track days and it worked well for that.

In the MX3 wheel well I plan on trying to fit a 225/45/16 in it. I think the 225 will be a little wide to clear the suspension and I may end up with spacers.
