Swapping a KLZE into an RS?

Post by AlphaBitz »

Hey folks..

I have been looking at picking up an mx-3 to work on for years waiting for the right deal that is close enough to me. Well just this past week I found an mx-3 locally at an awesome price in good condition. One problem.. I wanted a V-6 to eventually swap into a KLZE but the mx-3 is an RS.

I seem to recall seeing a swap guide for putting a KLZE into an RS but it has been years. I searched and browsed the forums here to death trying to find the guide or a link to it to no avail.

Does anyone have experience with this swap or possibly have a lead to a swap guide?

Please help! :?

Thanks!

hey Well i have done the sawp to my GS. It was not hard at all. BUt into a RS its all different the mounts , the tranny. It wouls be alot easyer and cheaper to buy the Gs fromt he start. Do a search and im sure you will find nothing but neg things about it.[/u]

I take it the RS is the mx3 with a 4 pot in it.

then you will need the v6 front subframes.
Macpherson struts and brakes. or at least the
lower part if your going to install aftermarket syspenion.

engine bay loom,
V6 radiator and pipes.

As Kiwi has mentioned the logistical nightmare to convert an RS front end to accept a KLZE would be prohibitively expensive. I think most 4 bangers and I agree, that it would be a better option to go the BP route or better still, a BPT. A BPT RS will be as lively (read fast) as a GS - ZE. Unless your abhorantly against boost, than your best option would be a BP for the RS. If your heart is set on a KLZE, than I wouldn't consider anything but a GS. IMO.

Thanks for the input!

Well.. it seems that all are agreed that it is not worth the time and effort to swap in a KLZE. I really do have my heart set on a ZE so I will have to pick up a GS. :?

But.. I think I will still buy the RS just for extra parts for when I do get a GS because the RS is so cheap ($200US in good condition and running).

Thanks again all! :)

Pick up the rs as its a good buy and by the sounds of it in good nick.

you can always get a totalled GS at some stage to get the parts
you require.
