rear calipers

hey guys, i took a look at the brake FAQ and search but.. i dont know if im not using the search properly but nothing relevant came up

im wondering if you can buy different calipers for the rear
the calipers are 229 EACH...

can i use calipers from an escort or something?
anyone have any ideas so my brake job doesnt cost me an arm and a leg?

i think the 323 rear calipers are the same.

However you can find better deals then that, my mechanic quoted
me that shitty price to but i ended up finding them for less.

man, 180 a caliper is soooooo much
my dads for his jeep brand new cost like 60 each
i am gonna find out about the 323 calipers

man, my car is so unsafe
i might just have to bite the bullet
automotive warehouse quoted like 190 and canadian tire was 219 or something ridiculous like that :(

and on top of that they would probly give you the wrong calipers anyways, those idiots are too stupid to do up a velcro shoe

maybe it was after core...but ya, not cheap. The fronts are really good tho $50 each after core

The rears are going to be more that the front just because there are less of them around. The main reason the price is so high for the rear calipers is that many people aren't returning the cores. The fronts are not a problem since there were so many car from 3 different manufacters on the road that used this caliper. I replaced the rears on mine last summer and the best price I got for re-man rear calipers was $90 each direct from the manufacture.

323's dont have rear disk brakes, so that could cause you some issues, lol. the only cars that come with 4 wheel disc (us or canada are different tho) are protege lx (us) protege gt (cnd) escort gt, escort lx-e, mercury tracer lts, and of course the mx-3.

all of those brake systems use the same thing, the only difference is e-brake cable, spring stiffness and shock brand name.

Actually in Canada a limited number of '90-91 323 H/B did come with BP-DE and rear disc brakes. Most of them looked like base model 323's while other look like fully loaded LX or the euro 323GT. Also the '95 323GS also had the BP engine and 4 wheel disc but there's only about 50 of this cars in the country. I've also came across a couple '90-'91 AWD H/B with 1.6 SOHC similar set up to the 323 Interplay X in Japan

The MX-3 rear calipers are completely different than the ones on the Protege/323/EGT. I don't know of any other car that shares the MX-3 calipers and trust me..I'VE LOOKED!

I rebuilt mine with a 30 dollar rebuild kit & they are working awesome now. Unless your calipers are totally seized or messed you should look into rebuilding them, although the rebuild kits are hard as hell to find & are always special order.

Converting your car to use Protege/323/EGT/Miata rear calipers would pretty much mean swapping the entire rear subframe for a EGT or Protege LX one, and I don't think it directly bolts up either. this would also mean new swaybar & probably the modification of some stuff.

The only thing that is the same is the rotors.

hey Yoda, not trying to be rude, but do you have anything to back up your statement about 323's having 1.8s and 4 wheel disc brakes from 90-91?? because i've never heard of it, that'd be cool if they were though...maybe they even came with front sway bars:P what did they do for interior/exterior? anything fancy???

cuz i remember i guy telling me there was a 323 with a 1.8 @ a yard, but i told him they only had 1.6...he was certain it was a 323 tho. hummph
