lots of mx-3 questions... need help!

Post by mistahmoogle »

i'm sorry if some of these questions sound stupid, but please help me out if you can! thanks!
first, i noticed some people have grills on the bottom of their front bumper here... http://www.geocities.com/mistahmoogle/b ... ill.jpg how would you do that? would you need to buy a special material from a car store or just go to like a hardware store? also for the grill right above the bumper... http://www.geocities.com/mistahmoogle/topgrill.jpg can you take it out and paint it? how would you do that? any special paint or considerations? any help appreciated!
second, i heard of people making their taillights all red except for the reverse lights. in other words, making the signal lights red instead of amber. http://www.geocities.com/mistahmoogle/taillights.jpg any way to do that at home or would i have to get it customized somewhere?
also, when my brother got my intake installed http://www.geocities.com/mistahmoogle/intake.jpg (it's a weapon-r with a K&N filter, custom fit for my '95 mx-3 DOHC I-4), he had a breather installed with it. the car then would die when started unless you left your foot on the gas and let it warm up for a few minutes. i took it to a shop and they removed the breather and it worked fine again. do you think that the shop installed my breather wrong? how would i install it correctly if it was a poor installation?
i bought my car used, and it had all these clips on the driver's side under the hood. http://www.geocities.com/mistahmoogle/clips.jpg are they of any use? can i remove them? sorry, i have no idea what they could be used for, especially the ones on the right two.
lastly, i have a mazdaspeed shiftknob http://www.geocities.com/mistahmoogle/shiftknob.jpg and was planning to get a shortshifter. i don't know much about them, but i can keep my shiftknob and use it with the shortshifter, right? just trying to make sure.
sorry for the long post! hope the pics helped if you had trouble understanding what i was talking about and thanks in advance for any help!

First off the grill is just basic "chicken wire fencing that can be bought at any Home depot or hardware store. The short shifter will accept the stock shift knob and aftermarkets. The rubber buttons on the underside of the hood.....well I think that if they were not there the hood would close with a "clang" noise. I think that they lessen the impact of the hood to the bumper/radiator support. Like I said though Iam not sure so dont quote me. As for the breather I never did this on my car, but my friends TSI has it done and even with a 20G turbo it has not had a problem. As for the taillights... take them off and pry them apart from the houseing and spray with a light coat of red spray paint not to dark you still want the light to be bright enough. Also just so that you know almost all of this stuff has been discussed before so for stuff like this you might want to check the archives;]!! Hope this helps!
Jim
93 clear white

On the clips under the hood, You use to have airbags in the car , And I can tell that you bought a wrecked car, You might have airbag Covers instead of Airbags, That is why you have the clips without the airbag wires tied to them, and up in the firewall, you see the blue and orange connectors? those are what connected the airbag sensor,

ON THE TAILLITES, DONT TAKE APART THE LENS FROM THE HOUSEING!!!!!!!
You can get some masking tape and tape off all the black on the tails and the reverse, then go to wal-mart and get some Boyd Cottington Model car spray paint, Choose transparent candy apple red, this will cover the orange and make it all pretty looking, chris
