Well, his old car
Its a 1988 Honda Accord
The brakes are in good shape, but dont work
Hand Brake works though

Brake Master Cylinder?
2008 Mazda 3
1993 MX3 GS

the problem is very easy to figure out. Its a honda, thats it. Plain and simple. :P



It could be a few things. Check to make sure the pistons havent siezed (if he hasnt driven it in a long time this is a possibility.), Check to make sure there is fluid in the resevoir, its possible theres air in the lines if the fluid ran too low, check the lines themselves to make sure none of them are rotted away this is a possibility in areas with high salt useage, if equipped, the brake booster could be malfunctioning by way of a vaccuum leak. You said the emergency brake works so I would probably check off siezed pistons (unless the car has rear drums)

Well the handbrake is most likely a cable brake that is why it works, it may be a brake cyclinder of sort, check the fluid levels also.
