Mazda isn't 'Owned' by Ford, they just have a massive amount of stock.

They own the controlling interests so basically they own them.

The more people own individual shares such as small time investors and large scale investors than Ford does. Ford just wants to be a controlling factor.

They all own stock in eachother's company. All intertwined. They should just all merge and change the name to "Auto" :P

ok so if ford doesn't own mazda then tell me why there is no differenct between a ford escort and a mazda protege (up till 97 of cource) and then even so they also are the same vechicle as a mecurcy tracer

and i should add the v6 in the mx3 is the same in the probe till the second gen the it has the same v6 KLZE as the mx-6 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so on that note Ford indeed owns mazda (although it hasn't been till recentlly that mazda has changed the look of all there cars as to not look like the ford counter part too bad because i want to see a new look for the b2200 i already had a ranger something more then the grill has to change )

Mazda Motor Manufacturing (USA) Corporation (MMUC) (Flatrock, MI) is basically a company setup by the parent mazda corp to manufacture vehicles in US in 1984. Ford acquired 50% stock in Mazda Motor Manufacturing (USA) Corporation (MMUC) in 1992. The company was renamed AutoAlliance International, Inc. and was announced as a joint venture between ford and mazda. The parent company (mazda) has a separate office called Mazda North American Operations in Irvine, CA. So mazda as a parent company still exists and is independednt from ford. And since ford has only 50% (not 51% or more) of shares - its a partnership - ford does not own mazda usa. Any decision has to be agreed upon by both company board members (atleast according to the official version). Ford and mazda had agreements dating back to 1984 to produce engines/transmissions for each other's cars in the north american market. They do all these buisness deals so they can save quite a few bucks on taxes, duty fees etc. In the end all these companies exist to make money - making good cars is a good side effect i guess
