Can't get my reverse lights to work for the safety

This is my first mazda. Let the learning process begin, so, for the reverse lights, wires are good, bulbs and sockets are good. Mechanic told me there is a pressure switch on the man. trans that is probably finished. Where is it? What does it look like? Wire colours? Why doesn't Haynes make a book for this fun little go cart of a car? My toy is a 92 gs 1.8 v6 with all kinds of miles on it but I love her anyways! Thanks for any help.

The wire colours are:
BLACK / YELLOW (12V when ignition on)
RED / GREEN (switched 12V to the lights)
Theres a diagram here - Figure 10, Grid E38.

Just stick the car on some stands and you'll find it ok. If you need to replace the switch I think there's some sort of washer on it that needs to be reinstalled too - if you don't the lights might stay on all the time.

Luck with it and welcome to the forums.

Click that and save AS. its a diagram for the tranny. You might need to view in a program that can zoom in (paint, adobe and others)

the back up switch is number 11.

Use a O2 sensor socket to remove the back-up switch. It has the needed slot to get the wire through and still get the socket over the switch. Any parts store will have the socket for a few dollars.

Actually Chilton makes a manual for our car! You can find it at most automotive centers. I personally found mine in the auto section of Walmart! Good luck with your car. I am actually in the process of replacing my MT Switch right now!!! I posted this in another forum under the electical & lighting with the heading MT switch. Cheers

Cool, thanks for the tips. Any advice will make life easier with my little red sweetie (well, faded red, new paint in the near future!)

Happy Holidays all!

Nice...mine looks like yours but with a red front. Mine is a little more beat up right now though but I bought it because its never been smashed and there is no Bondo. The previous owner Krowned it religiously. I would like to find a better engine since the one in my car now has 271,000 km on it and is getting a little tired. Still runs smooth though!

GSR it man. 2.5 KLZE all the way! Do some topic searches and you'll find all sorts of info. If you need guidance where to find one....I know of three in Toronto, Canada

how much do the 2.5's go for? Complicated install? I've never worked on small imports before, only big american muscle. Seems it would be a TIGHT squeeze! I'm always looking for a challenge though!

Same size if you get the bent neck IM 2.5 which is common in a mazda Millenia in Japan. The ZE is different from the north american 2.5 DE motors. These motors are going for 1200 CDN. Not a hard swap. Like I said, take some time and search these forums and you'll find all the answers to most of your Q's. If not, just post a Q and someone can answer your other Q's.
