If you somehow intergrated a heatsink(sp?) or cooling fins into the hood of an MX-3 would it help our car's underhood heat problem?

Would this coupled with a scooped hood keep our under hood tempetures to a minimum and cold air to a maxium or is this just a stupid suggestion? It could be made visually appealing, somehow... Gimmie some feedback people.

If you don't have AC you can easilly add another rad fan, I think Franko and Babyblue had 2 of those slim fans. Myself, with my MazdaSpeed bumper and my Invterted scoop CF hood, I notice a slight temperature drop when driving...although they do run kinda hot, it's not something tha they weren't designed to handle

They were meant ot run at those temps and nothing but a mechanical fix will drop the temps. However, dropping the temps will only drop the performance since the ECU is set to run in a certian predetermined range. Unless you have some sort of engine management don't bother.

I figure though if you drop the temp under the hood that'll change the air temp under the hood therefore providing an alternate method of forcing cooler air into the engine, without routing a custom made air intake into the fender wall and it would keep manifold temps down...

Correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't a mechanical fix also affect the ECU? Since it is set to run at a predetermined range ANY modification to the engine could possible affect preformance but the gains usually overshadow the losses, such as BHP over MPG.

Yes usuing a mechanical fix such a lower temp thermostat or drilling a hole in the thermostat would still negatively affect the cars performance. Lower intake temps is always good, but will only get you so far. If you want to lower intake temps get some Outlaw spacers. That and a CAI is about all you can do.
Heat sinks will work only if you can get them into fresh air, like a hole in the hood (you already suggested) but even that I doubt will make much if any difference. Eepecially for all the work it would take to make them. I also think they would look completely stupid, but that is your decision.

They most likely would look rediculous but i wanted to find out what people thought of the idea.....if i ever have one(or even half, if thats possible) of an idea worth producing i'll be happy but you i gotta get through the stupid ones first =P
