Oil in hot weather, please help me

Post by fir3 »

I'm from Brazil and here the average temps are 23º~28ºC / 73ºF~82.5Fº all the year.

It's a kind of hot. :)

Which oil would you guys recommend for me (that avoids hla ticks) ?

What brand ?

Synthetic or Mineral ?

Thank you.

fwiw, I use 100% synth year round - usually Mobil1. In my area, April - Oct high temps are 70* - 100*F so 10/30w. I switch to 5/30w for the Winter when high temps usually don't get much above 32*F with periods where temps don't even reach that. Maybe I should live in Brazil for the Winters... your climate sounds nice.

As for the HLA ticking, have ya looked at these?

Wow, that's nice low mileage. 20W/50  - IMO that stuff is thick as molasses and in your climate, I'd only use it on a high mileage very worn (out) engine with badly worn piston rings to minimize oil blow-by. Otherwise, would be concerned that the thicker oil would not flow well through the narrower internal engine oil passages and such.
