DRL rewire to second turn signal light housing

i'm going to put lights in the unused portion of the turn signal housings and i want to rewire the daytime running lights to use the new bulbs instead of using copious amounts of power to light up my high beams. i know i had seen a write up on this somewhere. does anyone remember where it is? i know it involves the drl relay and a bunch of other stuff. tia

I believe you may want to use Luc St Pierre as a resource for this. He may still have the info on his site (SRD Performance). I also posted a similar issue last winter and was convinced by our resident electrical wizards that it may not be a prudent thing to do in Canada. Your restricted to the size/wattage of bulb for that small cavity and it will not be bright enough as per vehicle standards. You run the risk of being pulled over and possibly being ticketed. Aux driving/fog lights may be a better option although the headlights do not run on a full 12V supply in the DRL mode. I believe it's in the neighbourhood of a 8V or 9V on the high beam filament IIRC. Perhaps a conversion to LED where a very bright pattern may be possible at a lower power consumption, but the bulb still has to contend with a diffused lense.

You could contact Luc but read here first. It's John's past thread on the topic. Then if needed, Luc might be willing to "fill in the blanks."

You're in luck Kevin. I located a 4 yr old saved version of Luc's webpage on the DRL mod on a hard drive. Pics and diagram included. Email me and I'll shoot an email reply back with the doc attached. Anyone else need it, jes holler...

Sending it to ya now. Thought this stuff was lost myself til recently resurrecting some old PC parts to upgrade an even older spare PC and voila, found a whole stash of saved MX-3 data files collected during the early days when I bought my MX-3.

Good deal. Just sent ya the how-to on an email reply. g'luck and lemme know if any probs opening the attached doc.

If anyone else wants Luc St. Pierre's full-version DRL mod to the turn sigs, incl. pics/text instr. & wiring diagram, drop me an email and I'll send a file attachment to you.

This how-to is outta print on Luc's site and the Web archived version on the Net has the text, but no pics or diagrams show up there.
