Slicks?? Size, Pressure, info!

OK, i need some info.

I ran my car with 24.5" x 8" slicks with the mods below, and i was having trouble getting traction even with the tire pressure down to like 10 psi.

I personally have 26" x 8.5" slicks that i was planning on using but didn't have them mounted or anything so i borrowed my friends 24.5" slicks.

Now my questions are, what size does everyone recomend and what pressure does everyone run them at??

I would like to be able to leave the line on the 75 shot i have. Also i am going to be uping the shot to a 100. But i would like to solve my little traction problem before i add more HP/Trq..lol.

I'd stick with a 15 or 14 inch wheel with slicks. Also 10 psi seems really low. I know lower is better but my buddy runs his slicks at like 20 psi and he's fine with traction.

Also make sure you warm them up really good.

I dont own slicks though so this is all second hand knowledge from my buddy when we go to the track

Heh If your not getting traction at 10 psi you sure as hell wont at 20.
how do you warm them up?
And at the end of the track what gear are you in and where in that gear?

Are you asking me how to heat up the tires? if so its simple. pull up to the water box, there should be someone standing next to you telling you when ur tires first enter it. then grap your ebrake handle, rev the car to like 3-4 grand n dump it. your tires will start to spin because less grip in water, then let off the ebrake n ull pull foward. then stage n take off. without slicks you'd prolly just go around the water box, but with slicks spin um up bro n that will get you much better grip.

I e-brake the car and spin the tires at like 4,000 for a while, they were sticky...thats y i don't understand it.

I am in 5th gear at about 115 MPH. I shift from 4th to 5th ~105-110 at 7000 RPMs.

damn...what kind of times are you running. Also since u have coilovers, can u make the rear really stiff, that might help a lil.
I dunno what to tell u though other than mx3s suck off the line...I recently found this out now that my swaps complete...next summer might be lsd time for me

Yea you should definatley get some taller slicks, you dont want to be in 5th gear at all .Thats slowing you down alot.

Yeah i can see that cause of my traction issues
you dont want to be in 5th gear at all .Thats slowing you down alot.
I thought i wanted to go through my gears as quick as possible??

Approximately 12.6...at around 115 MPH
Also since u have coilovers, can u make the rear really stiff, that might help a lil.
Thats one reason why i got coilovers, the car has no squat in the rear....just jump straight forward.

Youve got to remember that 5th gear is also OVERDRIVE. So for every revolution of the engine the tire only rotates 3.5 times. compared to fourth which is 4.5 times.
Now I cant quite remember if i did this correctly and this is with the stock tire sizes on the gs. But you get the idea....

i got you...i guess my 26" slicks will be better for me...then i am sure i will be in 4th at the end.

What track is this at that you are running a 12.6?

I finish in the middle of 5th and spin hard out of the hole.

What brand of slicks are they? Rim size?

What is your 60' time? That is a better indication of how youre launching rather than how bad you spin.

I have never ran my MX-3 at a track...i just put it together no more than 1 month ago. The only thing i have to base my time off of is the 350Z i raced runs 12.5 all day long.

I got into 5th but barely.
What brand of slicks are they? Rim size?
Well the ones i used were MT 24.5x8 on 14" rims Honda HX rims 10 lbs each.
The ones i will be using now are 26x8.5 and on 14" steelies

I wouldn't know since i never ran at the track, but the best i could do is find out the 350Z times he pulls as far as 60ft.

I will be making my way to the track to get my own number, but i haven't even pushed the car to what i want to do. I was just testing it out.
