Hi, I just picked up a klze for my protege (a cousin of the mx3) and it came with the mx-3 wiring harness, a je50 air flow meter and a kf34 distributor. Could someone help me out with getting the right us spec ecu? thanks.

You mean the right jdm ecu right? Here is a kl31

I need to get this up and running asap even if a us spec ecu is not the best option. Which us spec ecu(s) will work (like k8xx)?

The k8 will work, just not as well as the KLZE one would.

I'm getting a probe v6 ecu and air flow meter from 93 because it seems like that will be the most closely calibrated for this engine. Should that work fine with the kf34 distributor?

I'll take a stab since you're looking to find one quick and easy that will work with the ZE on a short term or even longer basis. Not sure how interchangable those probe parts are with Mazda wiring config. Although you haven't mentioned which IM and TB you'll be using, I'd source an MX6/626 ECU and VAF. ECU - KL01, VAF - KL02. Should be easy enough to find in junkyards. BTW, must be that combo to work with each other. Disty type shouldn't be a player in this scenario.

I ran the ECU and VAF from an MX6 for a while on my ZE setup and it worked okay. The ZE ecu and je50 VAF is much better and worth the money though.
