TB Re-Boring (KL68)

Post by jschrauwen »

I think we have a few who have had their TB re-bored. I'm looking to get mine done and once and for all sort out my idle issues. It's either that or get another KL68 TB, but I don't see them pop up very often. I think babybluemx3 has a 67mm re-bored unit??? I tried making contact with someone on PT about this and they've been unable to contact a known modifier of TB's. Any leads or direction or even sales of a KL68 would be helpfull.

Any place that specializes in carbuerator rebuilding will have the proper equipment & parts to do this kind of work. I am interested to what your results are as well John. Best of luck

What sort of effect does boring your TB have? With an N/A engine, my only guess would be to give you more immediate throttle response from 0 RPM?

Better breathing. I should qualify by saying that most DE/ZE MX owners would probably lean in this direction. Ya, better breathing wrt the addition of a CAI, IM and headers, the reduction of the restricted space of the TB would assist in the flow process. My KL68 TB venturi is not perfectly smooth and shaped together with a butterfly that will not make a complete seal in the venturi. My only option would be to re-bore it and insert the correseponding correct size butterfly or try to source another TB whose integrity may be a possible question mark. There is supposed to be a few people on ONPOC and PT that can do this for a nominal fee. Finding these people is the trick, although I am open to the possibility of buying another TB.

Tunes - If I can't find the experts in this situation, I may have to try and locate a "quality" shop that's up to this sort of task.

Actually John, I PM'd a guy from ProbeTalk to see if we was still doing them, he was boring them out to 65mm...I haven't heard from him yet, but i've already spoken for you as well :D

Corksport used to sell them, but I can't find them on their site.

I have 67mm TB that was bored out by PMO in their BB on PT a while ago, It looks soo nice, no coning its purrrdy.

Unfortunately it looks like i wont be able to use it with my Curved Neck IM. Waste of $150.

Soooo....Im in your KL68 boat.

Maybe we can find enough people to get a BB going somewhere???

Id be in.

Where is Frankford :?: If your not too far from Whitby, you can come over and borrow my KL68 for the day to do your testing. All my stuff is in pieces waiting for pistons and rods anyway.

Just have an extension made if you are having difficulties with the IAC clearing. That's what I'm doing to make my KL31 bored TB fit on my curved neck Millenia IM.

As of July 2011 the MX3 has been retired and sold.

That answers a big question for me. The KL31's IAC is on the left not the right side of the TB - correct?...hence the need for the spacer - right? Is the Outlaw Engineering thermal spacer enough of a spacer? How much of a spacer are we looking at?

What KL# is the 67mm bored TB? I'm not sure if I got you right....you have 2 TB's? One that is bored to 67mm and another that's a KL68 ?? Frankford is about 30 minutes east of Port Hope, so Whitby is about a little over an hour away from me. Sounds like an idea about coming down to Whitby.

The 67mm is a KL01 TB from a Probe, The KL68 is stock. Your more than welcome to come and try it out.
