(Question) 280hp/tq MX3 vs. Cobra R vs. 02 Z06...

I hear a MX3 with a turbod KLDE and a couple other mods (running at 260whp) could run high 12s and low 13s on a good driver
Anyway, according to this site, http://www.live2cruize.com/mustang_cobra_r.htm
a 2000 Cobra R runs 13.2s
A 02 Z06 runs 13.4s

Anyway, my question is, if you get a MX3 to 300whp like the owner of this site did, can beating both cars be possible? Infact, what times would be possible? low 12s/mid 12s (on 300hp)?

I'm just curious because its still hard to believe that our cars could get such good times at just 260whp.

Probably more like mid 13s on a decent driver and I doubt we'd beat either of those cars without a good roll cage to handle the power. And the difference between 260 HP and 300 isn't enough to make but a tenth of a second average on a really good driver.

the main problem would be traction, with really sticky tires and an LSD 40hp could gain half a second even (IMO).

C'mon guys you have to have faith: I went 13.9 @101 with a B6T that had MAYBE 160-170whp at the time, and that was with a 2.3 60' on street tires! True, my car was on a serious diet (as the current owner can tell you), but still; she had a mid 13 sec pass in her (this was running 12psi on the stock vj-14 BTW).
Anyway, when prepped correctly a 260whp mx-3 should have no problem running mid/low 12's (i.e. slicks, weight reduction, good driver etc..).

imagine babybluemx3's car on the 1/4  I think he's aiming for 350whp

yea, I think it would be easier for a lower HP mx-3 that was gutted to hit twelves than a higher HP mx-3. Like bmwguy said, you're starting to battle traction problems even worse when you're dealing with those numbers.

I remember some people telling me high 12s/low 13s would be possible on a 260whp/tq MX3 with racing tires, turbo (along with other mods) and suspension work with no weight reduction

With a extra 40whp, I thought it would be possible. Are you guys sure?

Traction is an issue and can be controlled a lot more than most think. The V6 guy might want to try using a 2-step ignition and launch using second gear at around 6000 RPM's or so. You want a controlled spin where the tires are just barely breaking traction, not smoke. When the tires are smoking you need to ease up on the throttle until it hooks and then put the hammer back down. Practice is what it takes here and your 60 ft. times are very important to your overall ET.

Yes a 300HP MX-3 should pull 12's all day long....my car should be pulling high 11's with 300WHP at about 13psi. At 30psi turbo only we should see low 10's if the traction is managed well. My car is on a healthy diet as well with the weight repositioned for added traction.

stiff rear springs, hard a-- front bushings for the control arm and everything else up front, some wide stick rubber and you could yes

Depends on altitude I guess.

I walked a dodge viper last time I went to the track. They don't run but high 13's/low 14's up here. SRT-4's run high 14's, EVo8's run 15's. 5900 ft elevation requires a .9 sec altitude correction according to the NHRA. Now, I'm not one to argue with the NHRA, but that may or may not be quite true.

In any case, I hit the strip again last week. I was disappointed to say the least.

On 9-10 psi (300 whp or so) my best of the night was a 13.806 @ 102.41. I was trapping lower than before, and this was on slicks. However, it was my first time with slicks, and theyre not easy.
Best 60' was 2.25
I talked to babybluemx3 today. His car weighs in around 2200 lbs and on his mid 14 run it was a 2.1 60'. Mine tips the scales at 2560. However, I have all the interior. Airbags, a/c, etc. It's a street car.

Take it for what you will I guess. Don't underestimate one thing though, at 5900 ft cars are MUCH slower.

I think that since the car wont hook with that kind of power, you would loose. And from a roll you would loose b/c of the gearing and lack of power..

SVT COBRA

I raced one of the new svt cobras at only like 120-140 hp and by the middle of second gear i had driven by him. It doesnt take near as much horsepower when you have a lightweight car against a heavy one with more power.
