Stock Antenna Question

I need to replace my stock antenna since the black plastic piece that holds it in place is toast. Did mazda make life easy for us and have the antenna plug into the antenna cable and then run the cable into the dash or.. is the antenna & cable one piece that will be a complete PITA to remove and replace?

:( PITA

Mine was one peice from top to bottom. I had to fish the wire from the stereo and down to the drivers kick panel where it went up. Then just pulled it out. Not overly hard or time consuming.

The PITA part would be to get the new one down the channel that the original one was in.

I never replaced mine. I just removed it and fibreglassed the hole.

But if I was going to put a new one in - I would have attached a peice of wire to the old one when I pulled it out. Then attached it to the new one, and pulled it down with that wire. Seems simple in theory...... :?

I ended up buying a 'hidden' antenna off ebay, and attaching it to the underside of the passengers dash.
this is the antenna I got:

And does that antenna work as well as the advertising claims it does? If so.. I am all for that ;)

Heck yeah, I'd do that for sure. Either that or copy Gro's antenna.

Oooh, what did Gro do for his? I must have missed it.

I have been wanting to do something about my antenna for a while now because on those rare instances I actually listen to radio, I don't like having to pull the sucker out.

Well my stock one, and most of the mx-3's I've been in kinda suck compared to most cars.

So this 'hidden' antenna, worked a lot better. I have a station where It was fuzzy all the time in town with the factory, and now it works great. Doesn't pick up the little stations, like college stations - but I don't listen to those anyway.

Then I fibreglassed the hole the antenna left - and now it's painted a miata red. So it's a little off, but I plan to paint my car in a year. So I just don't want it to rust. :D
