Has anyone actually used this filter? It's considerably smaller than conventional filter i've seen ... about half the size to be exact!
Going to cayuga race track next week and worried the filter will restrict oil flow to vital engine parts at high RPM...

Any experience with these filters? They were rated #1 on that oilbobguy website...

if you know its so small itll definitely restrict flow, why use it, use K&N or mobil 1

So where can you pick up oem filters?

Thats right. I only use oem. Its $6 cdn from the dealer. They have adrain back valve that after markets dont so if they clog up there is an alternate route for the oil to go.

You can get the OEM Filters from your local Mazda dealer in the parts department.

Choosing a oil filter is kind of a pandoras box.. lots of people have preferences and it can even depend on your driving style. Napa Gold oil filters typically have more filter material than most any other oil filter. (though Purolators are really good too) K&N oil filters do a good job and allow better oil flow. In honesty.. I dont know where the OEM filters fit in this. But if you are driving hard a lot.. you would want a oil filter than allows for the best oil flow, not neccessarily the most filtration. You wouldnt want your oil filter slowing down your oil flow in other words. However.. if your car is mainly a commuter car and not really a high performance toy.. well then likely you would want an oil filter with more filter surface to keep your oil cleaner longer. My guess would be that the OEM filters from Mazda try to fit both needs as best as possible. Just my two cents.

I tend to disagree. Engine wear primarily comes from contamination in the oil. If you drive hard the contaminants will do more damage to your motor. I've never heard of an oil filter decreasing performance so why not get the best filtration no matter how you drive? Besides, even if I'm wrong and oil did somehow affect performance by some miniscule amount, good filtration will help keep your engine running at max HP and max fuel efficiency whereas a worn out motor will loose in both respects.

Heh.. Your preaching to the choir Overclock.. I run Napa Gold filters on my engines.. I want the best filtration possible and from the cross sections I have seen.. Napa Golds are the best. I have also recently learned (today as a matter of fact) that the Napa Gold filters also have the Anti Clog feature that will allow oil to flow even if the filter is clogged. The above post was made to be generic and cover the many varying opinions that the oil filter topic usually raises. But for me.. Napa Gold. (K&N as a substitute if I cant get the Napa one quickly)

I have been using the Amsol filters since 1995 except I use the larger SDF-34.

Bosch filters are inexpensive and are better than fram/pennzoil.

Really Where did you cross reference that? The sdf13 is made for all mzada 2.5v6... Wish I knew that earlier!
